SMART Recovery Australia (SRAU): is a company limited by guarantee and is registered and endorsed as a health promotion charity operates through a license agreement with SMART Recovery International. SMART is governed by a professional volunteer Board and has attained Australian Service Excellence Standards Accreditation. At the most recent assessment, the assessor noted that SRAU works to a high standard and that our achievements exceed those of many organisations our size. Having the ASES accreditation also ensures SRAU complies with the Commonwealth Government’s National Quality Framework for Treatment Providers.

SMART Recovery is a mutual-aid and strengths-based program where trained facilitators, often peers, lead group discussions that assist people struggling with addictive behaviours. It is practical and solution- focused, using evidence based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) tools and techniques to help people achieve their recovery goals.

The Role

We are looking for x2 Participant and Facilitator Support (Volunteers) to provide administrative support to SMART Recovery Participants participating in SMART Recovery Meetings. Our dedicated volunteers are vital to the success of our programs and services. The more volunteers we have, the more able we are to assist people managing addictive behaviours. When you volunteer for us, you’re joining a dynamic and highly-skilled group of volunteers and staff who are passionate about supporting Australians to live a life free from addiction.

Relationships

  • Key internal relationships Senior National Program Manager and Trainer, National Program Manager and Trainer, Operational Support Officer, Operational Support Lead, Content Producer

  • Key external relationships include participants, facilitators and partner organisations

Place of Work

National in scope with work from home supported

Terms

  • We ask for a commitment of a minimum of 10 hours per week for a minimum period of 12 weeks but can take 6 month and 12 month placements also

  • Every volunteer is treated as a valued and respected team member and given the appropriate training and support services required to feel part of a team

  • Each volunteer is provided with opportunity to shadow SMART Training to gain understanding of SMART operations and social impact

Main responsibilities

  • Support the Mandated Attendance Program but providing certificate of attendance to participants

  • Support SRAU Members with Facilitation Recognition Program including meeting milestones

  • Implement Participant Recognition Program for meeting attendance including meeting milestones

  • Data entry and auditing of meetings

The Ideal Person

We love proactive self-starters with energy and enthusiasm. The ideal person for this role will be passionate about making an impact in alcohol and other drugs, addictions and mental health fields. Would suit a placement student or retired professional looking to give back, develop skills and join a supportive team. Additional Information

  • Identification of potential opportunities for innovation and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of SRAU

  • Confidence in working independently, and as part of a small team.

  • Professional oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to liaise effectively with a range of people

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and care

  • Experience in Customer Relationship Management System

  • Competency in Microsoft Office, Gmail, Google Docs

  • General Computer Proficiency

Desirable Criteria

  • Have awareness of the alcohol and other drugs, addictions and mental health fields

  • Experience with WordPress
