Tutoring Program Coordinator

Summary of role: The Learning Project (TLP) is Youth in Motion's (YIM) free learning support program for disadvantaged youth. At YIM we support young people realise their educational potential and help empower them to achieve their life goals through holistic tutor and youth worker involvement. We are a fully volunteer run organisation, driven by our passionate belief in the difference a quality education can make.

As TLP coordinator, you will be managing the learning support program. You will be leading the team of volunteer tutors, youth workers and administration staff to provide educational assistance to disadvantaged youth. You will also be a part of Youth in Motion's management team, providing direction and input about the program and helping inform the strategic direction of our organisation. Key responsibilities:

  • Onboard, supervise, train, and support volunteer, tutors, youth workers and administration staff
  • Lead TLP team to onboard new students and tutors, establish student and tutor pairs, and liaise with students’ support networks (parents, teachers, carers, case workers etc)
  • Work with Youth Workers and tutors to ensure child safety and supportive, responsive learning support for individual students
  • Work with admin staff to ensure smooth running of sessions
  • Work with the Management team to ensure program success

Skills/Attributes:

  • Experience working with young people
  • Team leadership ability, with collaborative team building skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Commitment to continuous improvement
  • Valid Volunteer Working with Children Check and Police Check
  • Value diversity, intersectionality, social justice, and sustainability
  • Proficiency with Google Suite

Desirable traits:

  • Lived experience with aspects of marginalisation or hardship
  • Prior youth work experience, particularly with disadvantaged/at-risk youth
  • Prior tutoring experience
  • Prior program management experience
  • Prior volunteering experience
  • Connections/prior experience with not-for-profit organisations, particularly with youth-focused operations

Organisational background: Youth in Motion started in 2016 as a pilot program, The Learning Project, at Naremburn School, supporting local school students who were disadvantaged or at-risk of disengaging from education. The Learning Project has now pivoted to an online model due to Covid restrictions, which has allowed us to reach more young people and tutors. You can find out more about us at youthinmotion.org.au
