  • Ongoing position
  • Commit minimum of one hour per fortnight
  • Age requirement - individuals 18+ years of age

The program

Having good social connections are essential for all aspects of health and wellbeing, especially as we age. Red Cross supports older people who live alone or have few social connections to assist to improve their wellbeing.

The opportunity

Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) volunteers make regular social visits and provide companionship and friendship to residents of aged care facilities or older people living in their own homes.

Volunteers are matched one-on-one with a participant or run small groups in aged care facilities with residents who share a common interest. As a Community Visitor you may learn new skills and make a connection that enriches your life as well as that of the person you visit. The visits are relaxed and social in nature where you might chat together, reminisce, listen to music or play card or board games.

The impact

As a Community Visitors Scheme volunteer, you will brighten the life of someone suffering vulnerability by offering them company and friendship. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world's largest humanitarian network.
