Community Integration Mentor

Whitelion - Frankston

The Community Integrations Program provides a volunteer to young people in out of home care to support them as they explore their interests and further positive community connections.

The program works with disengaged young people. Our aim is to create community connections for these young people by supporting them to participate in an activity of their choice.

The role of the volunteer is to be a consistent positive role model for a young person. We ask for a minimum of 3hrs participation per fortnight. Volunteers are expected to engage with the young person and explore different activities with them, whilst also facilitating the participation with the activity and having lots of fun!

Have resilience - demonstrate commitment and reliability whilst remaining flexible and sensitive to a given situation. Persevere to achieve goals even in the face of obstacles. Have the maturity and time to commit and have a range of life experiences that show you are able to take 'the rough with the smooth'. Have a range of interests that you can share with a young person. Have an appreciation of diversity in the community. Have an appreciation of ethical issues and can be entrusted to behave appropriately around vulnerable people and seek guidance when ethical dilemmas arise. Demonstrate a generous and positive outlook. Be self-confident and enthusiastic. Be open to learning from their young person as well as developing mutual interests and be able to relax and have fun. Respect the confidentiality of information shared by their young person.
