SYC has a relentless belief in people and their potential. We provide services that foster wellbeing, independence and opportunity for all Australians.

Obtaining a drivers licence can be a crucial step in gaining employment, living independently, accessing services and education, and having connection with family, friends and community. Not having access to a supervising driver to assist with the required hours throughout the learner period can be a huge barrier in progressing to a provisional licence. The Geared2Drive program exists to bridge that gap, with volunteer mentor supervising drivers assisting disadvantaged learners to complete their hours.

Geared to Drive by SYC, is looking for volunteers to act as supervising drivers in the Geared2Drive program. Program vehicles are fitted with a dual brake system and participants will have had at least 5 professional lessons before they are matched with a volunteer to be their supervising driver.

Training is provided and support given by the SYC Volunteer Program. A high level of patience and communication and a commitment to providing a supportive environment for learning and wellbeing is essential.

Volunteers must have held a non restrictive car licence for the past 2 years, disclose any prior driving disqualifications upon application and have a minimum of 6 demerit points available. Volunteers are also required to attend Volunteer Training, Safe Environments for Children & Young People Training and Driver training; and must be willing to complete a National Police Clearance, DHS - Working with Children Clearance, a Psychometric Assessment, and provide a copy of driving history. The cost of these will be covered by SYC.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
