Chat-a-Ring program - Support older people from the comfort of your own home

Uniting (Victoria And Tasmania)
Logo for Uniting (Victoria And Tasmania)

Do you enjoy sharing stories and having a conversation on the phone? Our Chat-a-Ring program supports older people who are socially isolated or find it a bit difficult at times to get out and about. We’re looking for Volunteers who are compassionate, good at listening and have the ability to connect with people over the phone.

You are someone who enjoys talking with people and hearing about diverse life experiences. A sense of humour is a must! You might share travel stories, favourite recipes, book recommendations and movies. Talk about pets, gardening or what’s happening over the week. Sports, art, history and so much more. Conversations which spark new interests or a desire to explore what’s out there in the community.

As a Chat-a-Ring Volunteer you will be connected to 3 older people, weekly or fortnightly (around 2-3 hours). We provide opportunities in skill development, as well as ongoing support and mentoring. As a Uniting Volunteer you’ll be able to access our online learning library with over 200 courses on offer. We value diversity in lived experience, language, skills and abilities
