MDFA's Support Groups provide a safe and welcoming space for people living with aged-related macular degeneration to share their stories and ask questions of their peers. The Support Group Facilitator role is well suited to someone with good communications skills and confidence in public speaking. Ideally you will have experience facilitating a support group and/or demonstrate the ability to lead a balanced discussion. Personal experience with macular disease is desirable but not necessary.

The key responsibilities of this role are:

• Creating a safe, encouraging, welcoming, supportive environment for all group members • Leading group discussions and keeping conversations in line with the purpose of the group • Acting as the main point of contact for the group • Facilitating group decision making around time, place and regularity of meetings • Helping address and resolve conflicts within the group • Linking participants to resources as required • Managing group administration

This role is an unpaid position that contributes to making a difference in the lives of those living with macular disease.

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Have group facilitation experience • Be a confident public speaker • Have good organisational skills • Have good IT skills with the ability to use email, MS Word and MDFA’s client management database

Applicants must be willing to complete a National Police Check (or provide evidence of one complete within the last 6 months).
