Position Overview: To support Child and Family Workers at TFC Playgroup. Engaging in a positive and strengths based manner with children and families.

Ballina - Thursday 9.30am to 12.30pm South Golden Beach - Wednesday 9.30am to 12.30pm

Please apply if you are available both either or both of these times each week during the school term.

Responsibilities and Key Duties: • Assist Child and Family Workers with the weekly delivery of playgroups • Assist with set up and pack up of venue and equipment • Interact and engage with playgroup participants • Manage dynamics of playgroup participants and model healthy relationships and communication • Monitor playgroup equipment with colleagues, bring awareness of any maintenance needs to attention of Child and Family Workers • Collaborate with TFC staff, volunteers and other services providers to enhance playgroup activities • Assist Child and Family Workers with responding to identified client strengths and needs by providing information and support • Provide relevant information about positive parenting to family members in consultation with Child and Family Workers. Assist to make appropriate referrals in consultation with parents/carers • Assist Child and Family Workers to provide information to parents/carers regarding their child’s development, health, safety and hygiene • Provide parents with opportunities to meet other parents and exchange ideas about raising children and to develop support networks • Assist in providing a range of age appropriate play and learning activities to stimulate children’s intellectual growth and support the development of early literacy and numeracy skills • Assist parents to use early literacy support strategies with their children • Assist Child and Family Workers in discussing transition strategies with families • Cooperate and collaborate with Family Centre staff and other service providers to ensure coordinated service delivery • Assist with maintaining service records, client and attendance information when requested

Professional Responsibilities: • Promote and share knowledge of TFC programs and services, direct referrals appropriately to staff member • Work in a manner that promotes respect and dignity of all participants • Adhere to the relevant standards, policies and procedures of The Family Centre including maintaining all aspect of Work Place Health and Safety • Promote and model TFC values, code of conduct and professional standards to all staff, volunteers and community members • Ensure environment is safe for volunteers, staff and community members • Report any identified risk or hazard to staff member • Contribute positively to TFC’s organisational culture • Submit accurate administrative records if relevant (e.g. out of pocket expense, travel reimbursement claim) • Submit volunteer time sheet, or assist with documenting attended volunteer hours.

Skills and experience required: • Physical ability to perform manual handling tasks • A willingness to undertake a criminal record check and a Working with Children check • An understanding of the NSW ‘Keep them Safe’ legislation • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team • An understanding of the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged families • A basic understanding of child development and issues confronting vulnerable and disadvantaged families (including domestic violence, substance abuse, child abuse, mental health) and their impact on families

Training requirements: • Attend TFC info and orientation training • Attend training and development relevant to the position as approved by Volunteer Coordinator and/or Program Coordinator
