Pain Link Helpline Peer Guide- Identified Role for a member of the LGBTQIA Community

Australian Pain Management Association (APMA) - Head Office
Logo for Australian Pain Management Association (APMA) - Head Office

The Peer Guides make calls at our Fortitude Valley office or work from home (after a probation period). Peer Guides complete reporting after each call that helps us understand the issues affecting our community. Peer Guides provide information and options for the issue that is causing distress. The Pain Link Helpline Peer Guide will guide callers and provide up to date, accurate and impartial information and emotional support to people affected by chronic pain.

Pain Link is a peer-to-peer service, and guides must have personal lived experience with chronic pain. This is a community service, and as such, we ask no practicing health professionals or students apply (unless the student has chronic pain). This role requires a special person that has true empathy and can respond to the intense nature of some calls with more than wellbeing buzz words.

Callers may be experiencing intense and desperate feelings when they contact APMA, and/or seeking support, information, and resources to help manage pain and life issues. Through an ongoing program of coaching you will be personally supported in your role to deliver the service.

Skills Required:

APMA aims to offer a consistent and reliable service to our callers, and as such, if you live with chronic pain and want to volunteer, you will need to self-managing your own pain well so we can provide this valuable service.

Some flexibility is available, so excellent communication skills are a must.

Lived experience with chronic pain complexities is a must.

Good listening skills are essential to the position.

Good time management.

Able to take direction.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
