Sporting Memories Group facilitator: Walkerville
SportsunitedIn collaboration with The Sporting Memories Foundation in the UK, SportsUnited is establishing Sporting Memories clubs throughout South Australia.
We are currently seeking Facilitators that will help to support the Sporting Memories clubs across various Adelaide metropolitan locations.
Responsibilities include:
- Facilitating weekly Sporting Memories sessions at a club, one day a week for approximately 2 hours.
- Organising & leading weekly sessions– this includes developing sporting reminiscence and physical activity opportunities that recognise the strengths of individual members and support personal outcomes (SportsUnited staff will support the Sporting Memories facilitator to do this)
- Engaging and communicating in a sensitive manner, with our members (some of whom may have difficulties communicating), with their partners or carers, with fellow volunteers and with SportsUnited staff.
- Understanding the value of companionship and love of talking sport, having a great sense of humour, enjoy games and quizzes and are able to connect with people of all ages and from all backgrounds.
Volunteers will be required to have an Aged Care certificate. This can be organised through SportsUnited should you wish to volunteer for the Sporting Memories program.
SportsUnited volunteers have the opportunity to:

- Develop skills in using sports reminiscence to help improve cognitive resilience in those living with dementia and other conditions.

- Experience in working as part of and leading a team of volunteers, as well as being part of the wider SportsUnited team.
