Social Support Volunteer - ACT
Australian Red Cross- Ongoing
- Flexible days and times
- Commitment to 1-2 hours per week or fortnight
The program
Red Cross supports elderly clients who live in their own home to improve their wellbeing and social connection by matching volunteers with an older person that has identified as being lonely and doesn’t have enough meaningful social interaction. These visits have an important impact on the elderly person’s life: enhancing their wellbeing, supporting positive mental health, promoting healthy ageing and having someone to talk to about life’s challenges.
The opportunity
When you volunteer with Red Cross you will make a difference in your community, develop new skills, connect with new people and be a part of the world’s largest humanitarian organisation. As a social inclusion volunteer, you will help build social and emotional wellbeing in older people in the community. If you have a warm and friendly nature, good communication skills, are 18 years of age or over this could be the perfect volunteering role for you.
The impact
As a social inclusion volunteer, you’ll brighten the life of a lonely and socially isolated older person by offering them company and friendship. You will also benefit your own life by gaining enjoyment and personal development through your visits and achieve a sense of purpose. Red Cross will provide you with ongoing training, support and access to other opportunities with the world’s largest humanitarian network.
