Volunteering from home in you own time

Ability Heroes

Ability Heroes is a new not-for-profit enterprise which serves people by delivering access and inclusion information that benefits an estimated 12 million Australians. The data offers people with disabilities, seniors, families with young children, and anyone experiencing accidents or illness during their life to plan outings with dignity and respect.

Volunteering with Ability Heroes allows you to participate from home and contribute by gathering and recording access and inclusion information onto the Ability Heroes platform. Our ideal volunteer could be anyone seeking to develop friendships, learn new skills, acquire work experience, and receive community recognition.

A person with a disability, senior, culturally and linguistically diverse or living with psychosocial restrictions could be ideally suited to this position as they are aware of access and inclusion requirements. If you are restricted from participating in work, sports, and pleasure activities, you could become a valuable community contributor. People seeking a change from repeated daily routines and work stress may also find participation in the project a welcome change. Flexible timing allows involvement when you are free. A record of your contribution is available when seeking further paid or voluntary employment with other organisations.

Your contribution to the project is by posting and commenting about the accessibility of local community services and venues. Promoting the project on social media helps increase community interaction and participation, strengthening local communities. As a contributor, you become a champion for more robust, caring and safer communities.

Your reward is receiving community recognition. Contributors to the community project are recognised as community champions on the Ability Heroes website.

Zoom training will be available on varied and pre-arranged days and times to give people otherwise occupied the opportunity to participate. Group training can be organised with participating Local Councils or Community Service Organisations.
