ABOUT LYF Now in its 11th year of operation, Leading Youth Forward (LYF) is a completely volunteer-run organisation which provides a structured mentoring and development program to around 80 at-risk Perth teens in years 7 to 10. Teens are carefully matched with a mentor typically aged between 22 - 39, who provides one-on-one support and encouragement to build confidence, nurture personal growth and positively influence their teen at a critical stage in their life. We run five teen events a year, including one weekend-long camp and four ‘Big Days Out’.

ABOUT THE ROLE The Vice President (or the Teen and Family Manager) is responsible for the recruitment and management of the young people in the LYF Program. They are the main point of contact for teens’ carers, families, and social workers. They also work with the Volunteer Manager to determine the best possible teen/mentor pair-ups, assist with getting our teens to youth events, help solve and confidentially record teen-related issues, and develop a good working relationship with social workers, carers and last but not least the teens themselves!

Key duties • Manage recruitment and selection of young people into the LYF program • Pair teens and mentors together with the assistance of the volunteer portfolio. • Maintain the teen and family database • Create suggestions for small group activities (SGA) for mentors and teens and manage the SGA approval process • Create, distribute, and maintain regular communications with families, case workers and carers in the lead up to events. • Manage relationships with parents/guardians, social workers, Child Protection Workers, and other referring parties • Provide guidance to volunteers regarding issues or questions about their teens • Approve the release of teen photos the public in official LYF communication • Report to committee on teen issues and risks • Assist in outcomes measurement annually • Attend monthly committee meetings • Provide assistance to the president as required

Qualities • Leadership skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience building productive working relationships. • Excellent time management and organisational skills • Discretion and confidentiality • Skills in information and database management
