Volunteer to change lives. Yours included. This volunteer opportunity will help to support disadvantaged families, children and young people enhancing wellbeing and safety. Volunteers offer clients a safe space to talk and experience positive interactions at recurring weekly home visits.

Family Friend volunteers work alongside families with the goal of building capacity and wellbeing to support safer, stronger futures for children. We support a diverse range of families experiencing complex needs including domestic family violence; mental health; alcohol and drug use; housing instability; and financial difficulties.

We are looking for volunteers who are compassionate, with the passion and confidence to support children, young people and families within the challenging child welfare space. Our volunteers need to have great communication skills, a non-judgemental approach and a willingness to learn.

The ideal volunteer will: ▪️ Be up for the challenge of supporting complex families in the child welfare space, ▪️ Be reliable and have a mature mindset, ▪️ Be able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries, ▪️ Be diligent in communicating safety concerns, ▪️ Be physically and socially able to interact with children, ▪️ Be available to volunteer for one shift per week during business hours.

Volunteers support the same family each week over a period of time, visiting them in their homes and community.

Location: IFSS is an outreach service, and volunteers visit families in their homes. Volunteers will work with families either within the Logan or Beenleigh/Nerang areas (depending on your preference). The program is coordinated from either our Underwood or Beenleigh office.

Our Team: Our team is welcoming and collaborative. Volunteers have access to development opportunities and a designated Volunteer Coordinator.

Depending on the family's needs, tasks may include supporting families to: ▪ Develop new skills; ▪ Connect with their community; ▪ Enhance parent-child relationships; ▪ Increase knowledge of child needs and development; ▪ Provide informal emotional support; ▪ Support attendance and participation in appointments; ▪ Assist with groups and events.

Times: Our team operates during business hours only. 3-hour shifts are negotiable between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

Minimum Commitment: 3-4 hours weekly for 6 months
