General Volunteers Needed For Community Rebuild and Flood Recovery

Families in Lismore are in urgent need of assistance!

As a Resilient Lismore volunteer you will be helping with cleaning, yard work, painting and practical rebuild jobs that include using basic tools, measuring, carrying, all sorts of general help. You don't need any specific skills just a kind and willing attitude.

Resilient Lismore is a registered charity and grassroots, community-run organization that formed during the 2017 floods in Lismore, NSW. We are a volunteer-powered community recovery effort supporting Lismore residents to rebuild their lives after the 2022 floods by connecting locals with volunteer help, information, and services.

In 2022 we delivered over $3.4 million worth of volunteer help and more than 3,000 clean-up and rebuild jobs for people across the Northern Rivers including in Lismore, Coraki, Woodburn, Wardell, Bungawalbyn and Broadwater.

Resilient Lismore is committed to providing you with a rewarding experience while you volunteer with us. We will provide you with the following: Jobs suitable to your skills and preferences. Required tools and PPE to complete the jobs assigned. Accommodation may be available at reduced or no cost.

WHAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Unfortunately at this time Resilient Lismore are unable to cover the cost of travel to and from Lismore.
  • Your volunteers / organisation will need to also cover the cost of all meals unless other arrangements have been made with the Volunteer Coordinator.

Key personal requirements are :

  • Steel Cap/Composite Toe Boots (preferred) or sturdy closed in shoes.
  • Suitable work clothing.
  • PPE will be provided by RL (personal PPE at your own discretion).
  • Check the weather forecast closer in for rain/warm/heat (Rain and sun protection is the responsibility of individual volunteers).
  • A Can Do attitude and a big heart!
  • ALL Volunteers must be registered with Resilient Lismore PRIOR to arrival.

MEDICAL Your situation surrounding your health status can change, so let's keep this simple! Let us know if you are carrying an injury or you are sick or recovering from surgery. Also, remember to bring twice your usual amount of medications just in case!

OTHER KEY INFO Lismore is easily accessible from major cities like Sydney, Brisbane, and Ballina. It takes about 9 hours to drive from Sydney to Lismore, and 2.5 hours from Brisbane. For those who prefer to fly, there are direct flights from Sydney and Brisbane to nearby Ballina Byron Gateway Airport, which is just a 30-minute drive from Lismore. The city is also well connected by bus and train services from both Sydney and Brisbane.
