The program

Red Cross supports young people who have been in contact with the justice system, with support to articulate their goals, reconnect with the community, their culture and support to pursue positive lifestyles to minimize future risk of reoffending.  We work towards to improving their wellbeing and social connection, and to remain living in their local community. We do this by matching volunteer mentors with a young person who can maintain regular communication and engagement with participants.

The opportunity

This role suits someone over the age of 18 who has well developed communication skills and people skills particularly in relation to negotiation, presentation and facilitation with young people.

A Volunteer mentor who has the ability to work and interact with young people/participants in a positive and non-judgmental way.  The Volunteer Mentor will provide support towards achievement of identified goals.

The impact

As a Volunteer Mentor, you’ll provide support towards achievement of identified goals.  You can assist young people to identify their priorities and opportunities to link to the community in positive ways and follow their aspirations.  You will have knowledge and understanding of issues affecting young people from a diverse range of backgrounds and environments.
