Resident Exercise Program

The Good Shepherd Home
Logo for The Good Shepherd Home

The Good Shepherd Home will soon be hosting a collaborative research project to be undertaken by the University of Sydney and James Cook University whereby residents will participate in a robust weight-lifting program that aims to reduce frailty, increase food intake and reduce the number of medications prescribed. As part of the project, the Home was gifted specialist equipment valued over $80,000. Residents assessed as being able to benefit from the program will be selected from across the Home.

We are seeking volunteers to become part of our research exercise project. You will encourage and assist our residents in attending their daily exercise regime. This will also involve collecting and walking back with residents to their rooms.

We are looking for someone who is caring and encouraging, friendly, personable and enjoys a chat. Able to push wheelchairs if required.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference, make new friends, enrich your life and help our residents live their best lives!
