Outline of the role:

Cancer Council’s Pro Bono Program assists people affected by cancer to access free legal, financial, workplace and small business support, when they would otherwise be unable to do so, because of cost, illness or other barriers. This support is delivered by connecting cancer patients and their carers with pro bono professionals who generously volunteer their time to provide advice and assistance with a range of legal, financial, and other matters.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Contact clients over the phone to assess their eligibility for pro bono assistance and unpack their legal, financial or workplace issues.
  • Respond to calls from clients and external health professionals with queries about the service and progression of referrals.
  • Prepare emails to brief external lawyers and other professional service providers to assist with the referral process.
  • Administrative support such as filing and maintaining record-keeping systems.

Our ideal volunteer will be:

  • Currently undertaking a tertiary qualification in law, finance, social work or other related degree.
  • Able to commit to a volunteer role 1 – 2 days per week from June 2022 until December 2022.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to problem solve and take initiative
  • Strong organisational and time management skills

Please note, the health and safety of our people is a priority for us, to access our workplaces our employees and volunteers are required to be up to date with their COVID vaccination, proof of vaccination will be required to attend interviews.
