Volunteer Ward Assistant - Cancer Care

Mater Volunteers

Our Volunteer Ward Assistants enhance the patient experience by providing support, companionship and reading material to patients during their stay, as well as basic administrative assistance to staff.

Volunteers in this role provide support to our patients by being here for a chat or offering practical assistance navigating their stay in hospital.

Duties include:

  • Provide orientation for patients and visitors to the Cancer Care unit
  • Assist with patient directions and escort to other parts of the hospital
  • Provide companionship and support to patients and visitors
  • Provide warm blankets to patients and stock blanket warmer
  • Provide tea and coffee to patients and visitors
  • Assist patient to use phone and menu to order their preferred meal

The current vacancies are:

Wednesday 9am-1pm

Volunteers must be able to commit to the same shift weekly for a minimum period of 4 months.

Volunteers are must meet our immunity requirements.

It is a requirement that you are and remain fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Please note proof of vaccination (MyGov Medicare Vaccination Certificate or Medical Certificate) will be required as a pre commencement requirement.

All Mater Volunteers receive on boarding and training to ensure you are confident in your role.
