Cancer Peer Support Volunteer

Counterpart connects, supports and informs Victorian women with cancer to live well.

Counterpart Peer Support Volunteers: • are motivated by a personal experience of cancer to support and make a difference for others • communicate with empathy • help other women experiencing cancer through listening, supporting and providing information • assist in group activities such as regular information sessions for women, family members, carers and friends • inform and refer people to available support services • are from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.

Additional requirements: • be able to listen and show compassion • be able to work within a team environment • be available to regularly attend rostered volunteer shifts (9.30am–2.30pm) on either a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday at the Counterpart Resource Centre, usually on a fortnightly basis • be non-judgmental and acknowledge that all people are different • respect privacy and confidentiality • be willing to commit to a comprehensive 40-hour training program • commit to at least one year volunteering with us • must complete an application form and, if shortlisted, attend an interview • be fluent in written and spoken English.

Time and training commitment: • 5 hour shift per fortnight (negotiable) in the Resource Centre and 40 hours comprehensive peer support training over 6 weeks
