SisterWorks is a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering women who are refugees, asylum seekers, or migrants. The organisation achieves this through employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, aiming to enhance their confidence, mental wellbeing, sense of belonging and economic outlook. At the heart of this mission is the role of the Social Enterprise Operations Assistant, a vital position that aids women from diverse cultural backgrounds in creating high-quality goods and services within Australia.

Position Purpose: To support the day-to-day operations of the social enterprise team.

Key Learning Outcomes: To understand the impact of skill development and employability for vulnerable women and the role of social enterprises in the community.

Roles and Responsibilities

Retail Shop:

  • Advocate for SisterWorks and ethical purchasing
  • Assist customers and process payments
  • Manage online and wholesale orders
  • Train and mentor Sisters

Entrepreneurship Program:

  • Help Sisters with brand development
  • Support Sister Entrepreneurs in creating collections
  • Review product pricing and manage inventory

Production:

  • Enhance Sisters' skills
  • Oversee daily production
  • Ensure product quality and cleanliness
  • Share skills and good work ethic

Cafe:

  • Support in increasing the employability of Sisters
  • Ensuring quality of service
  • Support daily cafe operations

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience is desirable.
  • Experience with migrants or refugees is preferred.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and pay attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Retail experience is a plus.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Interest in supporting women through hands-on learning.
  • Craft project or hospitality experience is beneficial.

Compulsory requirements:

  • Working with Children Check.
  • 10 hours a week (2 days/week), flexible hours.
