Befriending volunteers are matched with residents to provide individual visits, which aim to reduce loneliness and to increase social engagement opportunities. This role provides ongoing companionship and offers a supportive, reliable relationship to residents who might otherwise be socially isolated. Visits involve conversations, reminiscence and engaging with the resident in tasks that they enjoy. These visits aim to help the resident feel valued, acknowledged and less isolated. Duties include visiting nominated residents and supporting them to feel valued and validated by providing opportunities to reminisce and reflect on life experiences, and to share their stories.
