HammondCare and the Coles Group are working together to improve the quality of life for older Australians, particularly people living with dementia in aged care homes, by providing accessible shopping experiences. People living with dementia strongly report shopping as their favourite activity, providing them with dignity, autonomy, and a sense of meaning and purpose, according to international research.

As a shop volunteer you will sit in the Coles shop welcoming people to our onsite small store, and when needed help residents and staff to get the grocery they need (no money handling). You may also help to organise shelves and unbox food items in the small store. As a shop volunteer you will help the administrator in the facility with archiving files, printing paperwork etc.

Your impact

Volunteering as a social visitor can be a rewarding experience, both for the person you visit as well as yourself. Regular visits from volunteers can help to improve quality of life and help people feel less isolated.
