  • Do you want to help our community's most vulnerable?
  • Red Cross is looking for Volunteer Drivers in Strathalbyn
  • Commitment is one day a week or fortnight - 8:00am - 4:00pm.

The program

The purpose of the Social Support program is to strengthen people’s capacity to participate in community life, maintain or regain independence and stay living in their own home for longer. Volunteers are required to pick up and transport clients. Volunteers ensure clients receive a safe, courteous and respectful onboarding experience and they will always be mindful of the clients health, wellbeing, cultural background and lived experience. We look for different ages, genders and experience to complement our client diversity.

All Red Cross vehicles and offices are subject to regular cleaning. All drivers are expected to follow strict sanitisation protocols. No clients with virus symptoms or have been in contact with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 cases, who have travelled overseas or to interstate hotspots in the last 14 days are transported.

The opportunity

For this role, you are required to have a current full Australian drivers licence and an excellent driving record. You will have the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with a broad range of people including the elderly, individuals living with disabilities, disadvantaged, socially isolated and culturally diverse clients. You will also be confident using electronic devices including tablets and smartphones.

You will transport and support clients to attend medical appointments, allied health consultations and social engagements.

The impact

As a volunteer driver, you will brighten the day of the clients by providing a positive and respectful experience and in return, you will meet some wonderful people. We offer on the job training prior to commencing and ongoing training opportunities as required.
