Red Cross Event Support Volunteer – Ryde - Sydney - 13th February 2022 (afternoon)

The program

Australian Red Cross and City of Ryde Council (NSW) are holding a drive-thru donation event to collect preloved clothing, accessories and homewares. Get involved with the community and help divert goods from landfill by volunteering with Red Cross at this one-day outdoor event. Donations collected will help Red Cross Shops raise funds for the humanitarian work of Australian Red Cross, supporting people facing tough times in our communities.

The opportunity

To volunteer at this event, you should be fit & able to lift bags/boxes from vehicles.

You will assist us with: •Set up of the event (tables, banners, gazebos etc.) •Removing donations from car boots (some bags/boxes may be heavy) •Moving donations to a container onsite using a trolley •Returning trolley to vehicle area to repeat the process

What do I need to bring? •Wear closed-in, comfortable shoes •Wear comfortable clothing (keep in mind it may get dirty •Personal sun protective gear (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen •Own dietary-specific snacks if required •We recommend bringing a water bottle to limit single-use plastic.
•Masks, gloves and hand sanitiser will be provided, or you can bring your own.

All event volunteers will need to be double vaccinated and show proof of vaccination, also follow Covid safe procedures (check in, physical distancing, use masks & gloves)

You will meet us at Meadowbank Park netball courts car park, end of Adelaide St, Meadowbank NSW

There is plenty of free carparking available onsite for volunteers.

The nearest train station is Meadowbank, approx. 15 min walk.

Bus route 524 stops on Adelaide St within a 5 min walk, bus route 501 stops within a 15 min walk.

Masks, gloves and hand sanitiser will be provided, or you can bring your own.

No experience is necessary as you will be provided with training

The impact

Each year we rescue 450 tonnes of clothing from landfill, give opportunities to 5000 volunteers, and generate funds to help Red Cross support vulnerable people in Australia and around the world. The proceeds from the sale of items support the vital everyday work of Red Cross, providing relief in times of crisis and care where it's needed most.
