The program

Red Cross has been responding to emergencies and providing humanitarian assistance in Australia since 1914. We are committed to strengthening and extending our emergency aid services to assist all Australians prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.

The opportunity

Red Cross Emergency Services assist individuals, households and communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies in South Australia and across Australia. During and after an emergency, volunteers provide Psychological First Aid to people affected by a disaster, either in a recovery & relief centre or via outreach. If sent on interstate activation, responsibilities and tasks may need to be adjusted to requirements and scope of Red Cross operating in another State or Territory. A driver’s license is desirable.

Please note we cannot guarantee that if selected you will be able to deploy to disaster areas immediately. This depends on Red Cross needs and on completion of mandatory training and checks.

The impact

As an Emergency Services volunteer, you’ll help people to be better prepared, better connected to each other and more resilient when emergencies happen. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.

We encourage all of our employees/volunteers to be vaccinated against Covid-19 and a number of states have mandated that Australian Red Cross employees/volunteer must be vaccinated to perform work for us. Please make sure that you are able to comply with these government requirements or have the appropriate medical exemption information available.
