Complementing existing place-based services and community centre’s, SUSO supports those experiencing homelessness by providing showering and laundry facilities, as well as homelessness and mental health case worker services that instil dignity whilst also breaking the cycle of homelessness and poor health

Footprints Community is a well-regarded not-for-profit provider of community-based services in Brisbane recognized for quality service and individualized care. We provide support for people with disabilities, older people, their carers and families, people with mental health issues, and people who are experiencing social and financial disadvantage and those at risk of homelessness or homeless persons

Program Footprints SUSO outreach bus and its dedicated team is here to support individuals that are sleeping rough and/or at risk of homelessness. We can provide those individuals with a comfortable and safe environment to shower, access laundry facilities, and our dedicated team is available to help individuals get access to the right supports and services. SUSO works with organisations and neighbourhood centres to complement the existing services that are already present in the area. Our service currently operates weekly in Wynnum, Redcliffe, Caboolture, Zillmere, and Deception Bay Monday – Friday

SUSO offers: • Shower and laundry services • Dedicated professional and skilled team who can provide advocacy, support and referrals, or just a friendly chat • Free WiFi and mobile charging • Safe space to talk about housing needs and other supports

Role The SUSO Vehicle lead is fundamental in supporting and maintaining one of the most important aspects of the service. To provide the bus to specific locations around the region from the timetable to support the most disadvantaged attend SUSO and access its services. The position will be the first point of contact for troubleshooting any issues or faults with the bus, responsible for transporting the bus for repairs and maintenance. It is also the Vehicle drivers shared responsibility to complete the weekly bus checklist to ensure the bus is always safe, clean and well stocked. The role will be responsible for • Assisting the Vehicle Driver during set-up and pack-down of the service
• Maintaining a reasonable standard of cleanliness both within and around the vehicle site • Occasionally ensuring that showering cubicles are cleaned and accessible after each use • Occasionally assisting users to complete their laundry/serve beverage • Consistent communication with other volunteers and staff members.

Hours of Work: Bus to be collected and returned to Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions Southfield Road, Brendale after service concludes.

Currently require assistance for: Wednesday 11:00 to 4:00 - Caboolture Neighbourhood Centre Thursday 7:30 to 11:30 – Zillmere Community Centre There may also be capacity for additional shifts in other locations.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• To work in a manner consistent with Footprints Vision, Mission and Values. • To attend location and to greet vehicle on arrival • To maintain the showering and laundry facilities in a hygienic state at all times, using cleaning and safety equipment provided • To follow any emergency response procedures in the event of equipment failure, illness, or public disturbance. • To liaise with SUSO staff as required. • To perform other appropriate tasks as reasonably requested. • To maintain confidentiality of information regarding clients, carers, staff and other volunteers. • To work collaboratively with the program team and refer all professional client enquiries to the relevant staff members. • To comply with Workplace Health and Safety and other relevant Footprints polices as instructed. • To communicate with staff if unclear about or unable to perform duties for any reason.

Applicants must be prepared to participate in induction training before commencement of work.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential: • Medium Ridged Licence – ability to park in tight spaces • Good interpersonal communication skills. • Willingness to follow policy and procedure including awareness of and willingness to assert professional and personal boundaries. • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Workplace Health and Safety and risk management. • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team, following reasonable directions from supervising staff. • Sensitivity to the needs of Footprints clients including homeless people, people with disabilities, people with mental health issues and older people. • Ability to apply and obtain a National Worker Screening Test (formerly known as Yellow Card/Disability Worker Screening)]
