Propagation Leader for the Urban Food Program
Darebin Information, Volunteer and Resource Service (DIVRS)
The purpose of this role is to provide planting/propagating schedules for each DIVRS garden space (including schools program and veg squad program). To lead a team of committed volunteers to propagate and distribute seedlings to the Darebin community. DIVRS supports a vision of a community that is secure, healthy, sustainable and fair.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Work with volunteers to optimise amount of food grown across sites, including a plan for each garden site per season • Knowledge of vegetable types and varieties in order to develop site plans each season and manage propagation time frames, according to seedling demands. • Manage all propagation activities for projects (I.e. Schools program, sunflower project etc.) • Ensure healthy production of seedlings through their growth • Inventory of seedlings, seeds, space and materials such as pots, potting mixes, labels etc. • Budgeting (Being mindful about costs) • Preparing seedlings for delivery • Oversee seedling delivery/ pickup to all sites • Seasonal Garden plan for all sites. Forward planning up to 3 months ahead and being flexible to changes. (i.e Weather, variety preference & space) • Communicate and work with all teams in different locations. • Monitor and reply Whats App Group and Emails. • Weekly to do list for propagation teams. • Managing Rostering for propagation team members.
Useful Qualifications (desired but not essential): • Current Drivers Licence • Horticulture/Permaculture qualifications
