Community Support Volunteer – Assist and Connect

Muslim Women's Support Centre WA (Inc)

We are looking for dynamic and compassionate volunteers to provide support to women by assisting them to access relevant services in the community so that they can improve their well-being and access the support they need.

This is a rewarding position for Muslim women who would like to utilise their skills by making a positive impact in our community. MWSC’S current volunteers have stated that “they have developed a greater sense of purpose and built lasting friendships”

The support volunteer will engage with clients when they come to the centre and offer them support through information and possible referral. The role will include office duties that will contribute to the effective running of the centre and continue to support the clients. This is very much a team role, so you will work closely with other volunteers to achieve outcomes.

Key Responsibilities include:

Provide entry point contact at the front desk to engage walk in clients. Communicate with clients to make them feel comfortable and safe, while assessing and gathering information to assess their needs.

Discuss clients’ needs in the context of their physical, social and cultural environment, including experiences, and their preferences.

Provide information to clients as well as informal and formal referrals, as required. Communicate with community services as required, and to follow up on referrals as needed.

Work with other volunteers and assist in the establishment and improvement of client pathways and MWSC policies and procedures that reflect the philosophy of the MWSC.

Maintain a high level of professional standard at all times. Maintain regular communication with Volunteer Coordinator to discuss your work and any concerns that may arise.

Adhere to strict legal and organisation requirements to ensure confidentiality and privacy of all information.

Ability to speak a second language (preferable but not essential). Languages preferred include Arabic, Somali, Farsi or Dari and Urdu.

MWSC will provide induction, on the job support, and ongoing training opportunities where possible. Volunteers will have support through monthly group supervision and debriefing as required.

Volunteers are expected to be reliable, punctual and should maintain confidentiality at all times. Inability to attend training must be communicated to the Volunteer Coordinator.

The role would suit Psychology/Social Work/Cert IV Mental Health students seeking to enhance their skills with working with vulnerable and isolated people.

The role would also suit those in the helping profession who are looking to volunteer a few hours of their time a week, or those who have experience providing support to others and are passionate about promoting wellbeing and strengthening other women.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
