About Woodcroft College

Woodcroft College is an independent coeducational Anglican school located in Morphett Vale and welcomes students from ELC to Year 12.

Established in 1989, Woodcroft enjoys an enviable reputation and attracts families from across the southern region of Adelaide. Enrolments have grown to 1,430 students and the College employs 195 staff.

This is an opportunity to be part of the next exciting stage in the life of the school with a new Strategic Plan launch driving organisational improvement. This includes the development of new learning spaces with a new Junior School building currently in planning phase.

The Opportunity

Woodcroft College is seeking Expressions of Interest for one position on the Governing Council and multiple positions on its committees.

  • Governing Council (One position vacant).
  • Governance Committee (Two positions vacant).
  • Nominations Committee (Two positions vacant).
  • Strategic Committee (Two positions vacant).
  • Finance, Risk and Compliance Committee (Two positions vacant).
  • Infrastructure Committee (One position vacant).

The newly appointed Council member may be appointed to one or more of the committee positions in line with their skills and expertise.

Role of the Council

The school is committed to achieving the highest standards of corporate governance.

In consultation with the Principal, the Council’s role is to:

  • develop, establish and maintain the mission, vision and philosophy of the school.
  • ensure the College’s mission is appropriate and relevant to the community.
  • develop strategies to enhance the school’s position and future financial viability.
  • monitor the success of the school in achieving its mission.

Specific responsibilities and expectations are detailed in the Council Induction Handbook.

Role of Committees

Committees act as advisory bodies and assist the Council to achieve its objectives. Each committee has Terms of Reference detailing specific purpose and responsibilities.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidates will have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience with non-profit boards or similar governance role or related committee responsibilities is preferred. However, ambitious candidates who are looking to develop their expertise in governance are welcome to apply.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with other Council and committee members for the benefit and betterment of all students and school community.

  • Preferably bring experience in at least one of the following areas:

    • Risk management.
    • Auditing.
    • People and capability development.
    • Education sector.
    • Ability to effectively represent views and opinions of relevant stakeholders.
    • An understanding of the difference and delineation between operational, governance and strategic issues.
    • Personal qualities of integrity and passion for education.

Commitment

Council: Council members will meet 8-10 times per year and must commit to adequate time for preparation. Meetings are held in the evenings on the third Tuesday of each month during term times. Extra meetings may be scheduled as required.

Committees: The meeting times for committees are flexible and will be agreed with the committee members. Additional committee meetings will be on an as needs basis. Committee meetings per year.

  • Infrastructure (4 to 6).
