Social Support Volunteer - Workshops in the 5 Senses Garden

We currently host 2 different 'Workshops' within our beautiful 5 Senses Garden. 5 Senses Garden Workshops are held weekly on Mondays and the Living Well with Dementia workshops are held on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.

"5 Senses Garden Workshops" Weekly on Mondays

Are inclusive workshops that have four focus areas Food & cooking Health and wellbeing Gardening and sustainability Art and Culture.

These workshops are open to clients and the public, workshops aim to get the community connected and continue to develop skills in the beautiful calming surrounds of our 5 Senses Garden in Concord.

"Living Well with Dementia Workshops" First and Third Wednesday’s of the month

Fortnightly therapeutic workshops and morning tea for people living with dementia and their carers. Held at the 5 Senses Garden, with qualified facilitators. Providing an outdoor space to share stories, meet new friends, an opportunity to learn about various therapies and strategies that will enhance their sense of wellness and connection within the community.

The role of the volunteer is to actively contribute to clients and programs, under the professional direction and guidance of our Community Development Team Leader.

Role Responsibilities

Assist the Garden Aid Team Member throughout the day as required,

Assist and follow instructions from the Qualified Instructors/ Guest Speakers and Employees,

Assist with the transportation of clients from their homes may be required (no driving or vehicle required by volunteer)

Safely support clients moving in and out of the transport in accordance with WHS procedures,

Assist with clients mobility aids (such as walking sticks, frames, crutches, wheelchairs),

Provide companionship and social interaction,

Accompany and encourage clients to engage in activities and conversation,

Ensure a safe, courteous, and respectful working environment,

Be consistent with availability,

Maintain a high standard of service to clients in accordance with all other relevant policies and procedures.

Inner West Neighbour Aid has been providing services in our local community since 1992 and has created a community where seniors connect and share their knowledge to lead active, social, and independent lives.
