This position is responsible for the coordination of the SCARS Foster Care Program. The Foster Care Coordinator will be supported by a small team of specialist volunteers and will work collaboratively with staff and volunteers (including foster carers) to ensure that the needs of the organisation, the foster carers, and our animals are met in a safe, efficient, and nurturing manner.

The Foster Care Coordinator will be supported by a small team of specialist volunteers and will work collaboratively with staff and volunteers (including foster carers) to ensure that the needs of the organisation, the foster carers, and our animals are met in a safe, efficient, and nurturing manner. Key Responsibilities:

With assistance from a dedicated working group of specialist volunteers, the responsibilities to be met include the following and must be completed in line with the review’s recommendations:

  1. Managing the day-to-day operations of the foster care program.
  2. Promoting best-practice animal care and services.
  3. Coordinating the placement of animals, working with internal (AC Office, Vet Office) and external (foster carer) stakeholders.
  4. Coordinating the adoption of animals from foster, working with AC Office, Reception staff and foster carers.
  5. Developing appropriate application processes, training materials, and manuals to support foster carers.
  6. Developing and maintaining effective relationships with foster carers.
  7. Engaging with the Marketing Volunteer to assist with rehoming of foster animals and recruitment of foster carers.
  8. Acting as a 24/7 point of contact for foster carers.
  9. Overseeing booking and delivery of foster animals to internal vet services, in collaboration with the AC and Vet Offices.
  10. Coordinate the provision and stocktaking of resources to foster carers.
  11. Entering and reviewing data associated with the animals in foster.
  12. Providing brief written information for inclusion in the Animal Coordinator’s monthly report to the Management Committee.
  13. Leading team meetings of the foster care working group.
  14. Complying with, coordinating, and assisting in the development of the Program’s Policies and Procedures.
  15. Working at all times within the values of the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge.

Key Selection Criteria:

• Sound animal welfare knowledge across dog and cat species. • Sound animal handling knowledge and experience. • Experience in adult training/education. • Possesses a flexible and solution-focused approach to problems. • Strong ability to build and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written skills. • Excellent time management and organisational skills. • Good computer skills with experience using Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint. • Data entry experience, with meticulousness in record keeping. • Strong ability to lead a team and to operate within a broader team environment. • Belief in SCARS vision and values.
