Uniting Social Support Program keeps people connected to the community to support them live a happy and healthy life. The program assists people to keep doing the things they love. Whatever ‘living life to the fullest” looks like for them, we support them to make it happen.

Barb describes herself as independent friendly person with a good sense of humour. She enjoys going shopping, reading books, using her iPad and accessing Facebook. In the past she enjoyed gardening but is unable to do that these days. Barb would like a volunteer who is positive, outgoing, friendly and a good conversationalist.

A typical visit will involve visiting Barb at her home for a chat and a laugh over refreshments. The volunteer will need access to a car that will fit a 4-wheel walker for possible future outings. Barb* would prefer visits to be on either a Monday or Tuesday. Potential applicants should be comfortable around cats and be aware the Barb is a smoker although, she will refrain from smoking during visits.

As a valued member of the social support team, you will have access to ongoing training and development opportunities, the chance to meet new people and develop new skills, and the support of a dedicated volunteer coordinator throughout your volunteer journey. You will be volunteering to inspire people, enliven communities and confront injustice to make an impact in your community. Please note that during COVID-19 this role will commence over the phone, which will enable you to establish rapport and connection with Barb and enable her to stay connected to the community.
