Digital Mentor Training

Neighbourhood Watch Australasia
Logo for Neighbourhood Watch Australasia

In this free training course, you will learn how to support people taking their first steps using computers and the internet, improving their basic digital skills and allow them to gain confidence online. You will learn about the language and techniques needed to support someone, and the possible barriers people new to the internet can experience.

This course will help you to develop the skills and confidence needed to support people on a one-to-one basis, as well as helping small groups. You do not have to be a 'computer expert' to be a Digital Mentor, just a basic understanding of technology.

Digital Mentors will be trained and fully equipped to go out into the community to mentor older Australians. All training, resources and support will be provided free of charge. It is a requirement of this program that you complete a National Police Check, which is at no expense to you. This volunteering opportunity is perfect for anyone looking to gain practical work experience in their spare time and earn a $20 Wish gift voucher.

The Digital Mentor training lasts for approximately 3 hours and takes place online via Zoom. Training sessions are scheduled as interest arises and will take place during weekdays. Once you have completed the Digital Mentor training, the level of commitment is up to you. If you wish to offer your services once a week or once every few months, it's entirely your choice! NHWA will do its best to connect you with those seeking help from Digital Mentors.
