About Girl Guides

Girl Guides Australia is one of the largest not-for-profit organisations in Australia for girls and young women. Girl Guides provides a unique female only space where girls are encouraged by Leaders and peers to explore their personal boundaries, in a safe and secure atmosphere. Through this girls learn that they can do anything.

Exploring the outdoors and adventure are key parts of this, as we provide opportunities to develop leadership, confidence, resilience through challenging activities.  Our programs are girl-led, empowering girls to make decisions about what matters to them, including the activities we do.

As Girl Guides Victoria is an organisation that prioritises child safety, all volunteers need to complete a Working with Children Check, Police Check, provide references and undertake training in our Child Safety Framework.  Most of this can be completed online and our volunteers can assist with this process once you have met with the team.

About the Sailing Team

The Girl Guides Victoria Sailing Team is a group of volunteers who have expertise in sailing and water activities, in girl guides or in both. We are all women, providing girls with role models of women in adventure and science. The team works in equal partnership with Scouts Victoria to provide sailing and water activities to girl guides and to scouts out of the Guides and Scouts Sailing Centre in Sandringham.

The Sailing Team is led by an experienced Girl Guide Leader.

You do not need to have previous experience with either girl guides or sailing, but a willingness to learn is essential.  As developing experience in sailing takes time, we are looking for people willing to make a commitment of at least 18-24 months, to allow time for you to develop the necessary skills to lead groups yourself.

When leading sailing and water activities, we are responsible for risk management, environmental responsibility, planning, and budgeting. As a team, we also maintain our equipment and undertake regular opportunities to refresh and maintain our technical knowledge.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
