Salvos Youth Mentor - Lawnton, QLD

The Salvation Army Australia
Logo for The Salvation Army Australia

Drive for Life is a driver training and mentoring program that equips young people who are overcoming adversity, to obtain their drivers licence. The program removes the barriers and provides a pathway towards positive role models, developing independent life skills and improving employment prospects.

We are looking for volunteers to help young people get through the licencing process - both in theory and practical. The Volunteer Driving Mentor will be required to sit in the car as a Supervisor, with program participants, assist in logging necessary hours and reinforce safe driving skills (Salvation Army vehicles will be used - personal cars will not be needed). Hours required for the role are for various times of the day throughout the week, including night driving (Mon – Sun, during business hours and after hours)

This is as much about engaging both young people and mentors in their community as it is about licensing; we know that feeling part of a community assists with building a sense of belonging, improved mental health, developing pro-social behaviours and connecting to a shared social responsibility.

Driving, mentoring, casework or similar experiences/qualifications will be highly regarded for this volunteer role, but not essential.
