Special Olympics Australia was established in 1976 providing sporting opportunities for people with an intellectual disabilities of all ages and abilities.

Our global mission is to provide year-round sports training, quality coaching, and competition in 16 Olympic and Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

We create accessible sports training, coaching, and competition opportunities for all people with an intellectual disability whether they want to take part in recreational activities, aspire to climb the competition ladder, or seek additional opportunities outside of our program.

Special Olympics Australia is currently seeking a fundraiser to increase contributions of individuals and groups to sporting organisations by building relationships and explore new fundraising activities from various sources.

The ideal candidate will have well developed communication and interpersonal skills and previous experience in fundraising in a not-for-profit environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspiring new supporters to raise money, while maintaining and developing relationships with existing supporters
  • Raising awareness of Special Olympics Australia and its work at local and national levels, e.g. by giving talks to groups or seeking photo opportunities with the media
  • Developing new and imaginative fundraising activities, many of which involve organising events

Key Tasks

  1. Inspiring new supporters to raise money, while maintaining and developing relationships with existing supporters.
  2. Raising awareness of Special Olympics Australia and its work at local and national levels, e.g. by giving talks to groups or seeking photo opportunities with the media
  3. Developing new and imaginative fundraising activities, many of which involve organising events

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification
  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • National Police / Criminal History Check
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to work independently

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of Special Olympics Australia and programs
  • Experience in a similar role
