Volunteer West is advertising this position on behalf of Whitelion.

The aim of Breakthrough Mentoring is to support young people who have, or are experiencing risk, into sustainable employment. Mentees are young people aged 16 – 24 years old who are not currently engaged in sustainable employment and would like to work towards this goal.

Breakthrough Mentors have an established and recent work history that they are able to draw on as their lived experience in the ‘world of work’. Mentors have knowledge of the local labour market and connections within the region in which they will be mentoring. They will provide non-judgemental support to the mentee.

Breakthrough Mentors will be expected to:

  • Maintain weekly contact with Breakthrough Youth Worker Mentoring Coordinator and provide information about the progress of the mentoring relationship; seek guidance when ethical dilemmas arise; and respond to invitations for training and activities in a timely manner.
  • Have respect for the systems in which Whitelion’s young people are placed and the key people in their lives.
  • Represent Whitelion with integrity and act as a positive role model in all interactions in the community.

Mentoring offers many opportunities for mentors. If accepted into the program you will:

  • Receive regular support and training from our Breakthrough Youth Workers.
  • Receive accredited training from NSW TAFE – Mentoring in a Community Setting.
  • Be challenged and rewarded on a personal and intellectual level; and
  • Gain a greater understanding of the community in which you live.
You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
