Every Cat Matters

For over 50 years Cat Haven has been an integral part of our local community. Within this time hundreds of staff and volunteers have been committed to rescuing, helping to re home, care for and raise awareness for the eight thousand cats and kittens Cat Haven currently takes in each year.

How can you help? We currently require motivated, dedicated Volunteers to work on-site with our shelter cats in the 'Grounds' department! On-site Grounds volunteers assist with the following:

  • Washing litter trays & food bowls
  • Laundry
  • Cleaning and disinfecting cat enclosures
  • Restocking sheds
  • Behaviour enrichment
  • Other general daily kennel duties.

You will be provided with training that not only covers everything mentioned above but also Manual Handling and Hazardous Substance Training to keep you safe while you are here and also Cat Handling Training so you are able to read cats behaviour and learn how to interact with them safely and calmly.

Shift times are available everyday Monday - Sunday between 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Inductions currently run every 3-4 weeks

Our Requirements

  • Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of one, 3 hour shift per week (the same day each week) for a minimum of three months.
  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must be physically fit with the ability to lift 10kgs on a regular basis, as well as squat, bend and kneel to clean cat enclosures, move stock and transport cats in their crates
  • You must be able to follow and comprehend instructions that are given to you, and be able to work without direct supervision
  • You must be comfortable interacting with staff members, fellow volunteers and members of the public, providing assistance if required.
  • Successful applicants will be required to attend a Volunteer Induction and two group training sessions before commencing regular shifts.

Don't miss your chance to become part of the Cat Haven Volunteer Team, meet like minded people and learn more about cats, while supporting Cat Haven!
