You can be a part of this by volunteering a few hours per week as a Retail Customer Service Assistant helping with sales, merchandising and quality control.

Key Tasks Activities & Expectations Processing of stock • Sorting & lifting • Pricing • Hanging and displaying of stock • Respect that all donations belong to TSA Customer Service • Welcoming customers to the store • Assistance with enquiries and donations • Providing a good customer experience for shoppers Sales Counter • Cash handling, cash register, EFTPOS and point of sale transactions • Answering the phone • Referring those in need to other Salvation Army or local services if needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Understand and use required PPE (personal protective equipment) when working in the Thrift Store (eg. gloves, aprons etc.) • Check PPE is in good order and report issues or concerns to supervisor. Equipment use & maintenance • Safe use of all store equipment • Clean, store and care for equipment so that it is easy to access and remains in good condition. • Check equipment is in good order before use and report any issues or concerns to line manager. Maintain a safe and healthy environment • Monitor and rectify any health and safety concerns within the store and surrounding areas. • Report any potential health and safety concerns to supervisor • Complete WHS hazard/incident/accident form

A typical day as a Customer Service Assistant will see you attending to customer needs whilst maintaining a welcoming environment, contributing to a positive in-store experience. This role supports the Store Manager in operations of the store ensuring quality customer service, sorting of donated goods, pricing and maintaining the general appearance and upkeep of the shop. You will also be responsible for point of sale transactions including cash handling, cash register and EFTPOS.

Equally important, all Customer Service Assistants are responsible for fostering a culture of inclusiveness and community spirit amongst the volunteer team, which will in turn enhance the customer experience in the store.

Experience in customer service, sales and cash handling is favorable but not required as you will receive on the job training and support. You will be reliable, proactive and self-motivated. Your attention to detail and a desire for order and sparkle will be assets in this role, as will your upbeat and friendly attitude.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements For The Role

  • Customer service, retail or merchandising experience would be beneficial, but not essential as on the job training and induction are provided for the right candidates

Mandatory Requirements Of The Role

  • Complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration, training and induction modules, and any other training as required
  • Integrity Checks (National Police Check) will be required for the role

Roster & Time Commitment

  • Minimum 4 hours per week, as rostered. Please advise your availability in your expression of interest.
