Volunteers will work in the WA Wildlife Hospital under the guidance of our experienced Hospital Manager or Supervisors. Our minimum commitment is just one 6-hour shift per week/fortnight, with shifts running from 8:30am-2:30pm or 2:30pm-8:30pm. This program has more training and competency requirements than our Rehabilitation program. Prior to commencing a 16 week competency training, volunteers need to complete an online learning module and attend a wildlife handling practical training session.

Once you are a fully fledged Recovery Ward volunteer, you will have the opportunity to take on a full weekly/fortnightly shift or a shorter weekly shift (8:30am-11:30am or 5:00pm-9:00pm). As a volunteer, you'll be responsible for helping our sick and injured patients recover so they can transition into our rehabilitation programs. Joining our Recovery Ward program is a truly rewarding experience that has a direct impact on sick and injured wildlife.

Some of your responsibilities include: Cleaning cages, vivariums, aviaries or other housing facilities Washing dishes, laundry, perches and equipment Sweeping, mopping of Hospital facilities Handling a variety of animals Weighing animals Husbandry and enrichment maintenance Record keeping Administering fluids and food via syringe or tube Administering non prescription medications
