Unit Manager
SA State Emergency Service (SES)Skills / knowledge:
- Ability to provide leadership and advice to unit members and develop and foster a supportive team environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Familiar with IT, particularly word processing, spreadsheets and email.
- Experience with chairing meetings and meeting procedures.
- Knowledge of Unit Management Guide.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the functions of the unit and provide leadership and direction to all unit personnel.
- Ensure appointment of relevant unit roles and establish an appropriate reporting structure for effective management of the unit.
- Delegate responsibilities to the Deputy Unit Manager, Unit Operations Coordinator and other unit personnel as appropriate.
- Take steps to ensure the unit is able to effectively resource and deliver the capabilities allocated to the unit as per the unit resourcing plan.
- Where a unit role has not been filled (e.g. Unit Business Coordinator or Unit WHS Coordinator), the Unit Manager is responsible for performing or delegating the functions associated with that role.
- Ensure volunteers in the unit are appropriately trained and equipped and actively promote unit based training and skills and maintenance.
- In conjunction with the Unit Business Coordinator, manage unit finances in accordance with appropriate legislation and policies (e.g. GOSA, SAFECOM and SASES).
