Skills / knowledge:

  • Ability to provide leadership and advice to unit members and develop and foster a supportive team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Familiar with IT, particularly word processing, spreadsheets and email.
  • Experience with chairing meetings and meeting procedures.
  • Knowledge of Unit Management Guide.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the functions of the unit and provide leadership and direction to all unit personnel.
  • Ensure appointment of relevant unit roles and establish an appropriate reporting structure for effective management of the unit.
  • Delegate responsibilities to the Deputy Unit Manager, Unit Operations Coordinator and other unit personnel as appropriate.
  • Take steps to ensure the unit is able to effectively resource and deliver the capabilities allocated to the unit as per the unit resourcing plan.
  • Where a unit role has not been filled (e.g. Unit Business Coordinator or Unit WHS Coordinator), the Unit Manager is responsible for performing or delegating the functions associated with that role.
  • Ensure volunteers in the unit are appropriately trained and equipped and actively promote unit based training and skills and maintenance.
  • In conjunction with the Unit Business Coordinator, manage unit finances in accordance with appropriate legislation and policies (e.g. GOSA, SAFECOM and SASES).
