Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES)

There are all types of opportunities when you volunteer for an emergency services team. Depending on your locality, skill preference or interests, you may like to actively participate in:

bushfires
structural fires
road crash rescue
natural hazards such as floods and storms
administrative support
community events and engagement
ground support eg radio operations, catering, non-operational roles

Emergency Response

Training

Dependent on the service, a training program will be provided and supported by your Local Government or DFES.

Time required

Individual Brigades will welcome discussion around your time availability. Generally, attendance at monthly meetings and regular training nights may be encouraged.

Requirements

Driver's Licence (C)

Depending on service, i.e. Bush Fire Brigade, Fire & Rescue, State Emergency Service or Fire & Emergency Service, a National Police Certificate may be required. Due to the nature of the volunteering opportunities, you are required to reside in one of the mentioned localities.
