The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Uniting Victoria & Tasmania.

During these challenging times we need volunteers more than ever, to support isolated people in our community to feel socially connected again. If you’re a ‘people person’ and would like to make a difference to the life of someone who is socially isolated we would love to hear from you!

John wants to spend time with someone who'll share his interests and support and encourage him to achieve his social goals and reconnect with his hobbies. John’s interests include woodwork and listening to talkback radio. The selected applicant will be friendly, empathetic, patient and understanding, and with an interest in current affairs and technology.

The volunteer must be prepared for both in-home and community-based visits to share in activities such as going for a walk in the park, visiting to the shops or sharing coffee and stimulating conversation! Your own vehicle will be required to transport John* on outings. Valid driver’s license necessary. Effective communication skills and the confidence to work independently are a must. Experience with vision impairment would be highly regarded. Induction, ongoing supervision and opportunities for professional development provided.

*Participant's name has been altered to maintain his privacy. Interested?
