Childhood Cancer Support Inc

We require the professional services of volunteers to help with light general maintenance and repairs in our three accommodation houses and grounds in South Brisbane. So if you are an experienced handyman and are looking for some meaningful volunteer work to do in your spare time, we would love to hear from you.

This role would be well suited for someone who is available once a week for a full day or two half-days and has previous or proven handyman experience. The special person we are looking for will possess a cheerful willingness to be part of the team and to contribute to team goals.

As a volunteer at Childhood Cancer Support you will be welcomed into a small, friendly and committed team who value reliability and commitment. Our overall goal is to ensure that all our regional paediatric oncology families staying in our accommodation houses are provided with a home away from home environment so they can concentrate on the health and wellbeing of their sick child.

The workload is light, consistent and varied. The role involves working both inside and outside the buildings. You will have a 'can do' attitude and friendly outgoing personality with a willingness to contribute to helping others.

Tasks involved include: Change of light bulbs/fluro tubes. Patch, fill and paint small dents and holes. "Touch up" painting on walls. Hang pictures/photos in resident's rooms. Adjust/re-hinge cupboard doors. Installing roller blinds on windows, attend to appliance breakdowns (or call in a professional contractor to attend to the problem), assistance to install new furniture and appliances, fix door locks, ensure rubbish bins are put out every week. Removal of rubbish to the tip. Assist with moving of furniture and appliances. Assist with general tidying up in the garden or buildings.

This is a great opportunity to help families whose children are being treated for cancer and make a meaningful difference to their home away from home experience.

Previous DIY experience is essential. Driver's licence essential. Available to volunteer once a week. ▪ Police checks and Working with Children checks required before commencement

If this sounds like something you would love to do, we would like to hear from you.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
