Are you interested in leading a team of passionate volunteers to help save orangutans and rainforests?

The Orangutan Project is looking for a Fundraising Team Leader to lead and support our fundraising team in Canberra. Our Fundraising Team Leaders are one of the most important roles to help us grow, and as we emerge from Covid restrictions, the time to join us is now!

About the role

As the Canberra Team Leader, you'll support, lead and manage a team of dedicated volunteers. You'll also coordinate local fundraising activities such as trivia nights and market stalls, and you'll raise awareness about the plight facing orangutans and other Critically Endangered species. Our Team Leaders play a central role in raising much-needed funds to save orangutans from extinction.

Key tasks of a Team Leader

As a Team Leader you will:

  • manage and train your team of volunteers
  • plan and coordinate local fundraising events
  • book and set up merchandise stalls at markets and festivals
  • talk to people about the threats facing orangutans and how we're addressing these threats in Sumatra and Borneo
  • manage and store merchandise and other equipment
  • bank funds raised and maintain associated records
  • communicate regularly with your volunteers, TOP staff and the Volunteers Fundraising Manager

About you

You're passionate about the environment, especially about saving orangutans and other species from extinction, and about protecting the rainforests we all rely on.

You are a proactive self-starter and an excellent communicator who loves getting out and about in your local community. You have time and energy to put into this role, including occasionally volunteering on weekends and evenings.

You’ll need to have experience in either team management or fundraising. A good understanding of customer service principles, strong organisational skills, and being able to work in a virtual environment will also help you be a successful Fundraising Team Leader.

This role is a great opportunity to build on your existing skills and experience and contribute to your career goals, while also saving Critically Endangered species. You will receive support and training in any skills you need to develop further.

Most importantly, you're looking for a fun, dynamic role that's full of variety and capacity to grow. You're looking to use your skills and knowledge with a reputable environmental charity and make a real difference to some of the world's most precious environments.

If this sounds like you, please apply. After you’ve applied, please send a copy of your resume or brief summary of your experience to apply@orangutan.org.au, which will be sent to you in an automated message.
