Are you interested in joining like-minded people to help save orangutans and rainforests?

The Orangutan Project is expanding and we're looking for an Assistant Team Leader to support the Bendigo Team Leader, and to organise your own events and market stalls in the Victorian Goldfields area. Our Assistant Team Leaders are one of the most important roles to help us grow, and the time to join us is now! We're especially looking for someone who is based in Ballarat, Daylesford or Castlemaine.

About the role

This position reports to the Bendigo Team Leader. This role is primarily about managing a small team of volunteers and organising fundraising events and activities.

Our Assistant Team Leaders play a central role in The Orangutan Project to raise much-needed funds to save orangutans and their rainforest homes.

The role includes:

  • working with the Bendigo Team Leader to plan and coordinate events and stalls at markets and festivals
  • planning and coordinating fundraising events in your own community
  • researching and booking stalls at markets and community festivals
  • talking to people about the threats facing orangutans and the role TOP plays in Sumatra and Borneo
  • managing merchandise and funds raised at events and stalls
  • guiding and supporting volunteers that help out at your events

About you

You're passionate about the environment, especially about saving orangutans and other species from extinction, and protecting the rainforests we all rely on.

You are a proactive self-starter, and an excellent communicator who loves getting out and about in your local community. You have time and energy to put into this role, including occasional volunteering on weekends and evenings.

You have experience in either event coordination or fundraising and you're comfortable supervising volunteers. A good understanding of customer service principles and having strong organisational skills will also help you to be successful.

This role is a great opportunity to build on your existing skills and experience and contribute to your career goals, while also saving critically endangered species. You will receive support and training in areas that you may need to develop further.

Most importantly, you're looking for a fun, dynamic role that's full of variety and capacity to grow. You're looking to use your skills and knowledge with a reputable environmental charity and make a real difference to some of the world's most precious environments.

If this sounds like you, please apply below.

After you’ve applied, please also send a copy of your resume or brief summary of your experience to our email address, which will be sent to you in an automated message.
