Board Treasurer

StreetSmart Australia

At StreetSmart, we are a small team who believe no one should be without a safe and secure place to call home. We work to support people who are homeless or at risk, and work to end homelessness in Australia. Our campaigns raise vital funds and awareness for small, ‘hard to reach’ grassroots homeless services and projects. To date we’ve raised and distributed over $10.5 million and supported 1000+ homeless organisations across Australia.

As a result of significant growth over the past 3 years, we’re in an exciting position where we plan to expand our work – to raise more funds, support more communities, and raise more awareness of the continuing needs and challenges small organisations experience in tackling homelessness at the grass roots.

Our current Treasurer is retiring from the Board and we are looking for a suitably skilled, experienced and passionate person to join the Board as Treasurer.

Treasurer Responsibilities: Act as Treasurer to StreetSmart Australia Ltd in accordance with the Constitution and applicable legislation (including the Australian Charities & Not for Profits Commission and the Corporations Act).

This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee the financial administration with the bookkeepers, and develop and maintain finance policies
  • Provide the Board with regular updates on our financial situation including monthly cash flow and balance sheet
  • Support the CEO in the preparation of the annual budget and in monitoring how the organisation performs against budget
  • Oversee our modest investment portfolio, and advise the Board on options
  • Coordinate the production and presentation of annual financial reports
  • Lead the process and liaise with our auditors to ensure the timely approval of our audited annual report and accounts
  • Provide broader strategic and business advice, particularly relating to financial sustainability, low risk and opportunities

Time commitment required: Bi-monthly board meetings of up to two hours, and an additional day per month outside of meetings to support Treasurer matters. Note: annual audit may require some additional time and can vary.

Duration of tenure: We are looking for someone for a minimum two year term in the first instance.

Required: Qualification in Accounting and previous Board experience in any sector would be useful, but more important are your energy, skills and commitment to tackling homelessness.

This role is Melbourne-based, where we are headquartered, but open to remote discussions.

If you’re interested in the role, please send a resumé and covering note to the Chair, Damien Farrell. Email queries and applications can be directed to, Email: treasurer@streetsmartaustralia.org

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
