The program Red Cross has been responding to emergencies and providing humanitarian assistance in Australia since 1914. We are committed to strengthening and extending our emergency aid services to assist all Australians prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.  The Red Cross Emergency Services program aims to support individuals and communities to cope with and manage the psychosocial impacts of emergencies.

The opportunity Volunteer Callers make wellbeing phone calls to community members, and Red Cross personnel who have been activated.  They take calls from people affected by an emergency to register details, and from people looking for loved ones. They may also make calls to community to assess levels of emergency preparedness and actions and undertake other calls such as follow-up calls after presentations and training. Volunteers assist and support Red Cross’ work in emergencies. This dedicated pool of volunteers allows Red Cross to provide support to communities across Australia in preparing for, responding to and recovering after emergencies. Volunteers will be mentored and coached during first calls and will have access to ongoing training to develop skills and knowledge. Volunteers are required to be flexible and available for deployment periodically and when major emergencies or other requirements occur rather than for regular shifts.  Volunteers are required to be over 18.
