Community Visitors Scheme, Sydney Local Area Health District

Volunteer to visit and converse with a designated resident in an aged care facility on a one-to-one basis, at least once a fortnight or a minimum of 20 visits per year. The volunteer will need to provide a record of visits to the co-ordinator every three months and inform the co-ordinator if experiencing any difficulties or accidents. The volunteer must be able to converse fluently with the resident in their native language.

It is preferable that visits are face to face, but depending on the circumstances volunteers may also engage with residents remotely, for example by phone, on zoom by mail etc.

IMPORTANT: To become a volunteer visitor, all applicants are required to complete an on-line Infection Control Training unit run by Australian Government and a CVS induction Training. To minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection, all visitors are required to have a current flu vaccination certificate, to perform a COVID-19 safe self- screen check on the date of their visit and to be screened by the aged care home on their arrival.

Benefits:

  • make new friendships
